Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei optimistic to live up to expectations in semi-final at London Olympics
Lee Chong Wei, who is Malaysia’s best bet to win the gold medal, is confident and physically and mentally ready to put up strong show in Men’s Singles semi-final against China’s Chen Long at the London Olympics 2012 on Friday, August 3, in London.
The World Number Two and top seed at Olympics Chong Wei, who has been struggling to find a good flow in the mega event, has regained his confidence and is looking forward to prove his worth against his young Chinese rival at the top-four stage.
The Malaysian shuttler played well in the quarter-final battle and overpowered Parupalli Kashyap of India in straight games with a good margin.
The 29-year-old Chong Wei is gradually getting his flow back at the mega event and many people think that he will emerge as the winner against the World Number Three Long in the semi-final clash.
Chong Wei has been working hard to overcome his ankle injury for the last two months and is now in good condition to challenge his Chinese rival who easily defeated Peter Hoeg Gade of Denmark in the other quarter-final battle.
While talking about his upcoming match, Chong Wei said that it will be tough contest as his opponent is quite good.
He stated, “As for the semis, that has been the focus and my coaches and video analysts have been preparing me for that. He is surely a tough opponent and I would rate our chances as equal.”
He further added, “I am mentally and physically prepared for the battle tomorrow and am optimistic that I can overcome him, playing the right tactics.”
Chong Wei’s coach Tey Seu Bock also said that playing against Long will be tough as compared to the previous matches.
Seu Bock expressed, “It will be tough against Chen Long but in order to win medals Chong Wei has to overcome such opponents.”
The top Malaysian shuttler seems to have found a good rhythm required for a good competition and he is doing quite well at the mega event.
The winner between Chong Wei and Long will take on the winner of the other semi-final between Korea’s Lee Hyun Il and China’s Lin Dan in the title match.
