Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei ready to end his country’s title draught at the World Championships 2011
Malaysian shuttler, Lee Chong Wei, is ready to end his country’s title draught by winning the Men’s Singles crown at the World Championships 2011. The event is scheduled to begin on August 8, in London.
Malaysia is one of the most dominating badminton nations in the world, but surprisingly, the country has never won any gold medal in the history of the World Championships. Despite having top-class shuttlers, Malaysia is yet to prove their worth in the mega
event.
Current World Number One, Chong Wei, is expected to win the title for his country, as he is in terrific form at the moment. The Malaysian hero has won six out of seven international events in which he participated this year.
While talking about the remarkable performance of Chong Wei, Youth and Sports Minister, Ahmad Shabery said, “I am very proud of his performance (in winning the Indonesian Open men's singles title), more so he did it in style.”
Ahmad also expressed his views about Chong Wei’s fourth victory in the Indonesia Open by saying that he has entered into the row of great players, who earned a good name by winning many titles in the Indonesia Open including Indonesia’s Ardy Wiranata and
Taufik Hidayat.
However, another harsh reality of Malaysian badminton is that apart from Chong Wei, there is no Malaysian shuttler who possesses the skills to give a strong challenge to top athletes of China, Korea, Indonesia and Denmark.
Ahmad commented on the bad performance of the second strength of Malaysia by saying, “There are times when they are in good form and times when their form is not so good.”
At the moment, the 28-year-old Chong Wei is the only hope for Malaysia in the World Championships, as he has the ability to beat any player in the world of badminton. In the final of the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2011, the Malaysian had crushed
World Number Five, Peter Hoeg Gade of Denmark.
