Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei wants Badminton Association of Malaysia to have own badminton stadium
Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei wants the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to have their own Badminton stadium, as the current training venue is also used for other games.
Chong Wei, who is also considered as the most impressive player in the history of the game in Malaysia, is not happy with the consistently changing venues for training sessions ahead of important international events.
The Juara Stadium, in Kuala Lumpur, which is the training venue for professional shuttlers, will be used for the Sukma Netball competitions and all shuttlers have to move to other places this week.
The 28-year-old Chong Wei, who is enjoying the top spot in the Men’s Singles world rankings, knows that changing venues with regular intervals will disturb the preparation for the World Badminton Championships 2011, which are just three months away.
Chong Wei said, “The players have been moving around this week. But this is not something new. Whenever, there are events at Juara Stadium, we have to be like nomads. We wait for the coaches to tell us the training locations every day.”
The top Malaysian seed insisted that there should be a proper venue for professional shuttlers, where they remain focused in their training without any interruption.
He added, “I am speaking on behalf of all the players. Ad hoc arrangements are cumbersome. Hopefully, we do not have to change training venues anymore after this. And it is also my hope that the BAM would work fast on getting their own national centre.”
The All England Champion also expressed that it becomes quite comfortable for all shuttlers to attend training sessions at one place, instead of going here and there to find places for training. It takes extra time to reach different places, which creates
frustration and the players remain unable to focus on their training.
Chong Wei is working very hard in his training sessions to prepare well for the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2011, which will be his last major event before the World Badminton Championships 2011.
