Malaysia’s Mak Hee Chun is willing to accept the decision of his coach
Malaysia’s men’s doubles player, Mak Hee Chun, who is a back-up shuttler in the men’s national squad, is willing to accept the decision of his coach, Tan Kim Her, regarding his shaky performance with his partner Tan Wee Kiong. There are communication issues between both shuttlers which are affecting their performance in important events.
Mak Hee – Tan Wee are going through a bad patch and they have no one but themselves, and their lack of communication, to blame. Their coach, Kim Her has already warned them that they need to pick up their game or else their pair will be separated.
The coach has given them a chance to perform in the upcoming two international events including the Malaysia Grand Prix Gold and Thailand Open. If they fail to produce satisfactory results in these events, they will lose their partnership.
Mak Hee is recovering from an injury and is determined to perform well in the upcoming events at home and abroad as well.
“The coach has given Wee Kiong and me the chance to play in the GP Gold tournament and I will give my best. And I will leave it to the coach to make a decision if our partnership is not going anywhere,” he said.
The player also said that if he is given an option to change the partner, he will select his former partner Teo Kok Siang. The duo won the World Junior Championship in 2008. But in 2009, Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) broke their partnership and accommodated them with new partners.
“I enjoy my partnership with him. We can combine well and there is no problem in communication. Badminton was fun and enjoyable then,” Mak Hee said.
The double’s shuttler also said that he has failed to qualify for the mega event of World Badminton Championships 2011, and that it would also be very difficult to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics if his partnership with Tan Wee doesn't click. He has nothing to lose now and due to this factor he expressed that he will not mind if his coach set his pair with his former partner, Kok Siang, again.
