Malaysia’s Men’s Doubles pairs face challenging opening-round matches in the Thailand Open GP Gold
Malaysia’s Men’s Doubles pairs have challenging opening-round matches in the Thailand Open GP Gold 2011, which will start in Bangkok, Thailand, from June 7.
Four pairs in the Men’s Doubles category, who are placed in Malaysia’s national team of back-up shuttlers, will be fighting against some higher ranked players in the first round of the draw.
Malaysia’s second strength in the Men’s Doubles will comprise on Lim Khim Wah – Goh Wei Shem, Tan Wee Kiong – Chan Peng Soon, Yew Hong Kheng – Mak Hee Chun and Chooi Kah Ming – Ow Yao Han. All these young shuttlers will be tested in the tournament, as a
good performance will surely boost their confidence.
Yew Hong – Mak Hee will start their campaign in the event as qualifiers. They will play two matches in the qualifying round before entering in the main round of the draw.
Kah Ming – Yao Han will be up against Germany’s higher ranked duo of Johannes Schoettler – Ingo Kindervater. Another Malaysian pair of Khim Wah – Wei Shem will be fighting against Korea’s Kwon Yi Goo – Cho Gun Woo in the starting round.
Tan Kim Her, who is the coach of back-up players in the national squad, is confident that his shuttlers have the ability to put up a good show in the upcoming event.
While talking about the opening matches of the Malaysian shuttlers, Kim Her said, “My instruction to them is simple. Get past the first round match and reaching the quarter-finals or semi-finals shouldn’t be a problem.”
He further added, “And my best bets to go far in the tournament are Yao Han-Kah Ming, who are one of the most improved pairs. They are up against a German pair and they just need to step up their game on the day itself to win the match.”
These back-up players are expected to deliver a good performance in the Thailand Open GP Gold, which will award points for the 2012 London Olympics. These shuttlers have got a superb opportunity to gain vital experience by playing against some of the best
in the world of badminton.
