Malaysia’s Singles coach, Rashid Sidek praises Lee Chong Wei for lifting his game – Badminton news
Malaysia’s singles coach, Rashid Sidek said that Lee Chong Wei has worked really hard to raise his game to the highest level of badminton and that he has also drawn himself equal to China’s Lin Dan in terms of skills and physical fitness.
There was a huge difference between the skill and fitness level of Chong Wei and Lin Dan as the Chinese was miles ahead of the Malaysian shuttler. Lin is known for his aggressive approach in the court, as he has incredible speed and stamina. He is also mentally
very strong which gives him an advantage over all top athletes in the world of badminton.
However, Chong Wei, who is World Number One, has come to the level of Lin with the highest level of commitment and dedication towards the game. The Malaysian is famous for his hard work and no other Malaysian shuttler is working hard like the top seed has
been doing for many years.
While talking about the difference of skills in the past between Lin Dan and Chong Wei, Rashid said, “Chong Wei was far behind Lin Dan’s standard at one stage. But he has put in a lot of hard work to stand at the same level with the Chinese ace. That speaks
volumes about his commitment and hunger to make a difference.”
Rashid also added that Chong Wei is mentally strong now as compared to a couple of years ago. He said, “He was mentally strong. If not he could not have taken Lin Dan to the distance. Unfortunately, he was unlucky not to win. Chong Wei will come stronger
after this.”
In the Men’s Singles category, besides Chong Wei, no other Malaysian shuttler possesses the skills required to become a world-class act. All back-up shuttlers of Malaysia are miles behind in their skills when compared to Chong Wei, who stands out among his
nation’s players due to amount of talent he possesses. The Malaysian will be looking to make a comeback in the same Wembley arena next year, when he will compete at the 2012 Olympic Games.
