Malaysia’s Tan Boon Heong confident to taste victory in the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2011
Malaysia’s Men’s Doubles player, Tan Boon Heong, is confident to perform well with Koo Kien Keat, in the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2011. The event will start from June 21, in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Tan Boon is passing through a bad patch in his career, as he has not won any Super Series event since 2010. The 23-year-old Malaysian shuttler is determined to get back on the right track of success in the upcoming Indonesia Open, which is offering a rewarding
of US$ 600,000 as prize money.
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has made it compulsory for all players in every category, who come in the top ten in their world rankings to participate in the Premier Super Series tournaments. This move has made the competition quite tough for all
shuttlers.
While talking about his quivering performances, Tan Boon said, “I won so many titles in my first year as a senior player. Then, it slowly dropped every year. This year, I have yet to win a Super Series title with my partner and it is quite disturbing.”
Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat have been doing well in the last few years, as they clinched six Men’s Doubles titles in 2007. In the following year, the duo remained successful in winning two titles. In 2009, they again delivered a superb performance and
won four titles in major events.
In 2010, the pair grabbed two titles, whereas, this year, they have just won one title in the home event of Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold 2011.
Tan Boon and Koo Kien are placed at Number Four in the Men’s Doubles world rankings and the duo is determined to perform well in the Indonesia Open, which will boost their confidence to perform well in the World Championships 2011, starting from August 8,
in London.
Tan boon said, “Kien Keat and I are determined to do well in the Indonesia Open. A good showing will certainly boost our confidence as we prepare for the world championships.”
The Indonesia Open will start from tomorrow in Jakarta, where all top shuttlers in the world of badminton will participate to lift the prestigious title. Victory in the event will surely help athletes in attaining a better ranking for the 2012 London Olympics.
