Malaysia’s Tan Kian Meng and Goh Jin Wei clinch Boy’s and Girl’s Singles titles in the MSSM event
Malaysia’s Boy’s Singles player, Tan Kian Meng, and Girl’s Singles shuttler, Goh Jin Wei, have clinched the titles in their respective categories in the MSSN, a national schools championship, at Cheras, Malaysia, on Sunday, June 5.
Tan Kiang defeated Soo Tack Zhi in straight sets in the title match of the Boy’s Singles Under-18 category, whereas Jin Wei tamed Ng Qi Xuan in a similar fashion in the final of the Girl’s Singles Under-12 category.
Kian Meng has made his presence felt by winning the first major title in the junior’s category in Malaysia. This performance can earn him a place in the Malaysian squad for the Asian Junior Championships, which will take place in India in July, 2011.
While talking about his previous performance Kian Meng said, “I was beaten in the semi-finals in last year’s Under-18 competition but this time, I stayed more steady to win the title. I had better control throughout the game and I did not make many mistakes.”
He further added, “This is my best result in the junior ranks. I have never won anything big before this. Hopefully, I will be among the four singles players selected for the Asian Juniors.”
Jin Wei stunned every one by playing mature badminton in the Girl’s Singles final against Ng Qi. She also clinched the Girl’s Doubles title with the partnership of Lee Shun Mei by beating Toh Ee Wei and Yap Su Ling in two games.
In both finals, Girl’s Singles and Girl’s Doubles, Jin Wei finished up the matches in straight sets, proving that she is best in the business. She appreciated the support she received from her coaches and parents in winning these titles.
After her victory, Jin Wei said that she is optimistic to win the titles in every tournament in the junior’s category, including Under-16 and Under-18. Jin Wei is a future hope for Malaysia as the shuttler is confident to become a world class player and
represent her country at international level.
