Malaysia’s Tee Jing Yi gets opportunity to book her seat in the World Badminton Championships 2011
Malaysia’s Tee Jing Yi has an opportunity to book her seat in the World Badminton Championships 2011, which will take place in England in August. If the Malaysian manages to perform well in the upcoming Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold, which will take place
from May 3rd to May 8th, she will be representing her country at the event.
Tee Jing is set to replace senior shuttler, Wong Mew Choo. The veteran player announced her retirement from international badminton in March, 2011, because of severe injuries. The current standing for Tee Jing in the Women’s Singles world ranking is 112.
Her better performance in the Malaysia Open GP Gold will earn her ranking points which will improve her standing at the international level.
Ng Chin Chai, the chairman of Training and Coaching Committee, appreciated the performance by Tee Jing in Vietnam and said that the shuttler will be the most suitable candidate to represent Malaysia in the World Championships.
“Jing Yi emerged as the Vietnam Challenge champion (on April 4). This is a good result, considering that she defeated Sapriree (Taerattanachai) in the final (21-19, 21-15),” he said. He further added, “Jing Yi has improved in recent times and we hope that
she will continue to do well.”
Chin Chai is optimistic for the better performance of Tee Jing in the Malaysia Open GP Gold. Ha said that the forthcoming event will be a good test of the skills of the young shuttler.
In the first round of the Malaysia Open GP Gold, Tee Jing will start her journey against Thailand’s Nichaon Jindapon. If the Malaysian emerges as the winner of this first round match, then she will be up against either team-mate, Lydia Cheah or Wang Lin
of China.
In this event Saina Nehwal of India, who is currently World Number four, will be the top seed. The Chinese shuttler, Wang Xin, will be the second seed of the tournament. The other prominent shuttlers in the women’s singles draw will be Bae Youn Joo and Sung
Ji Hyun of Korea and Eriko Hirose of Japan.
