Malaysia’s Tee Jing Yi ready to fill vacuum left by Wong Mew Choo in the Women’s Singles category
Malaysia’s Tee Jing Yi is ready to fill the vacuum left by Wong Mew Choo in the Women’s Singles category, as she proved her worth by beating Russia’s Anastasia Prokopenko, in the Sudirman Cup 2011, in China, on Monday, May 23.
Tee Jing, who is playing in the Sudirman Cup for the first time, proved that she has the skills required for becoming a world class shuttler and can replace Wong Mew, who retired from international badminton last month.
The 20-year-old played a superb game against Anastasia by sparing no chance for her to dictate the pace of the game. In the opening set, Tee Jing opened her campaign in an impressive fashion and quickly created a reasonable gap of 11-8, at the end of the
opening part of the first game.
After taking a break of 60 seconds, the Malaysian continued her flawless performance against the Russian, who made many errors in the game. Tee Jing played a panned game by executing powerful strokes in all corners of the court. She managed to win the opening
set by a decent difference of 21-17.
Malaysian coaches were happy with the performance of Tee Jing in the opening set of the match. The shuttler then got advice from the coach in the five-minute interval, before the second game.
Tee Jing surprised everyone by playing stunning badminton in the second set of the match against the Russian, who found herself quite helpless against the flawless Malaysian. At the end of the first-half, Tee Jing was leading the game with a clear margin
of 11-6.
After getting back into the court from a one-minute break, the shuttler continued her impressive game by exploiting all the weaker areas of Anastasia. Anastasia tried to play attacking game but failed to get the bird high in the air, as her opponent was
playing a parallel game. The Malaysian finished the second game without making any error in the second set and finished the match by a big margin of 21-13. The match ended in favour of Tee Jing, with a 21-17 and 21-13 score on the board.
