Malcolm Stewart to make his debut in the Houston Supercross this Saturday
Malcolm Stewart will make his debut in the world of Supercross by competing in the upcoming Houston Supercross in the Eastern regional opener of the SX Lites class.
Being the younger brother of the Supercross legend and two-time AMA Supercross champion James Stewart, all eyes will be on Malcolm to see whether he lives up to his brother’s name.
Malcolm Stewart happens to be a regular teenage with a natural desire to feel how it feels to be in a stadium with thousands of people watching his every move. Of course he could have simply asked his older brother James how it felt. Instead, he decided
to put on a helmet and experience it on his own to get a better idea about the feeling.
The 18-year-old will be kicking off his Supercross career this Saturday on a number 139 Arma/Suzuki City backed RM-Z250. Aiming to finish in the top five in his Houston debut, he has been putting in time on the test track to prepare himself for the competition.
His performance on the test track extremely impressed Michael Nasakaitis, manager of Team Arma/Suzuki City. Nasakaitis was already aware of Malcom’s potential to become a champion in the future, but the teenager still managed to exceed the team’s expectations
even before competing in a race.
“He is very professional,” Nasakaitis said of Malcolm. “His knowledge of the bike and being able to give feedback is unbelievable. It's obvious that Malcolm has an educated background in bikes.”
Not many years ago, Malcolm had other plans for his life, and they did not involve a bike. He wanted to be a professional fisherman. Instead of the AMA Supercross series, he was striving to become a part of the Bassmaster tour. He nearly walked away from
racing to pursue a career of a fisherman, but things did not go his way and led him to concentrate on his riding instead.
His older brother needs no introduction. James Stewart is nothing short of a legend in the world of Supercross. The two times AMA Supercross champion has been rocking the world of Supercross for a numbers of years now. The 25-year-old prodigy has been referred
to as “the Tiger Woods of Supercross” by many because of his numerous milestones in the sport.
Malcolm is aware that people will be making comparisons between him and his older brother James. However, he does not let it bother him too much and simply shrugs off the comparison by saying that he does not have anything to prove and is simply racing for
himself.
About the support from his brother, Malcom says, “[James] told me to go out there and have fun and don't think about anything else. Don't worry about what people say. Just go out there and do my thing.”
Malcolm considers his brother the best guy on the planet and values the opportunity to sit at the dinner table of a guy who is currently in his 10th season of professional racing.
While James Stewart will be defending a five-point lead over Ryan Villopoto in the Supercross class, Malcolm Stewart will be making a debut his debut in the Houston Supercross this Saturday night at Reliant Stadium.
