Malcom Speed asks for Pakistan to be suspended from International Cricket
Former ICC Chief executive, Malcolm Speed, has urged Pakistan to be banned from international cricket. According to him the controversy deserves serious considerations by the ICC to ban http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 form the international arena. The statement came in the wake of recent alleged spot fixing by Pakistani players and the emergence of video clip depicting Mazhar Majeed with a huge cache of money.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed was arrested on 29th August over the alleged conspiracy to defraud bookmakers, but was later released on bail without any formal charge sheet being raised against him. The video clip was released by a British tabloid, who published the alleged story of misappropriations. The alleged video revealed clear conversation by the bookie Mazhar Majeed, claiming to buy Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Amir for deliberately throwing no balls during specific overs.
The validity of the video couldn’t be yet proved but the correct identification of no balls and comparing it with the real match scenario raises very serious doubts about the integrity of the players.
Pakistan suffered a humiliating defeat of an innings and 225 runs against England in the Lord’s Test. According to some sources, the alleged misappropriations in the form of spot fixing by Pakistani players were already in the knowledge of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yard’s Assistant Commissioner. The Scotland Yard had got a tip off from some credible sources and had put the Pakistani players on surveillance after the information.
Malcolm Speed remained at the helm of international cricket’s affair for seven years. He urged application of strict rules against the alleged players and asserted provisions in ICC’s anti corruption code can be applied to suspend the whole nation. Malcolm Speed expressed serious desire to ban Pakistan’s team from international cricket. According to him the corrupt practices of match fixing is endemic and can influence the whole cricket game. Speed in an interview with ABC radio urged for suspending Pakistan’s cricket team from international cricket. He opined that suspension could be a serious option. Former England Captain, Vaughan supported a life ban on the alleged players in case they are proved guilty. In an interview with BBC Radio Five Live, the former captain, Michael Vaughan, favored a life ban only in case the allegations are proved one hundred percent. According to Vaughan, the corrupt menace of match fixing could only be stopped by taking severe action against the players. He insists it to be a behavioral problem that could only be addressed by exemplary punishments. He claimed that if stern action is not taken against the proved crime then the menace of match fixing would inflict cricket continuously.
Vaughan was skeptical about the continuation of the One Day series between England and Pakistan. He said that now it is too difficult to concentrate on the game and on the series. Even the integrity of English players may come under suspicion while playing against a tainted side. He depicted a situation by placing himself as a batsman, and if he had scored a century, people would have raised eye brows on the veracity of his century. In such situations according to Vaughan, people were bound to question the legitimacy of the runs. Vaughan appreciated the English team for seriously playing the series and displaying a winning attitude. However, celebrations themselves are affected when it is revealed that the competition was a fake. Any match fixing news dilutes the happiness of the winning team irrespective of their complete innocence in the incident.
