Maldini questions Prandelli’s selection policy and blasts http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Osvaldo-c28821’s call-up: Serie A news
Former Italian national team manager, Cesare Maldini, has blasted the current national team boss, Cesare Prandelli, for preferring http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alessandro-Matri-c4733.
Osvaldo has been drafted into the squad as a replacement for injured duo, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Northern-Ireland-c2972. The former Espanyol star has had a great start to
his http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 career and has scored 3 goals in five matches for the club thus far. However, Maldini has questioned the manager’s selection policy as he has rejected the proven options for new players.
The former A.C Milan defender believes that Juventus striker, Alessandro Matri, should have been included in the squad as he done extremely well whenever he is given a chance at the international scene. Maldini has demanded explanation
for the manager’s selection policy and believes that he prefers to select foreign options ahead of the players playing in the domestic league.
While talking to the reporters, Maldini said, “Prandelli should certainly be asked for the reasons that pushed him to call up Osvaldo and not Matri.”
“I think he called the former Espanyol striker in an emergency situation. I ask myself how a forward like Osvaldo, after only a few games with Roma and a brief spell in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 with Bologna and Fiorentina, can so easily earn the
Azzurri jersey. In any case, Prandelli’s position towards foreigners had already become clear when he called up http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thiago-Motta-c34897.”
Osvaldo has already played for the Italian U-21 side but is yet to make his debut for the senior team. The striker has been in rich goal-scoring form of late and scored 13 goals for the Espanyol last season. The 25-year-old signed
for the Giallorossi in the summer transfer window for a fee close to 20-million-Euros.
Italy has already topped its Euro 2012 qualifier group and the results of the two upcoming games will have no say in the group standings. The Azzurri will face Serbia on October 7th, 2011 before hosting Northern Ireland
on October 10th, 2011.
