Maldives International Badminton Challenge: Srikanth K. Beats Mohamed Ajfan Rasheed in second round
India’s young shuttler Srikanth K. showed his brilliance in the game when he played to his maximum potential and found a spot in Men’s Singles pre-quarter-final by toppling Maldives Mohamed Ajfan Rasheed at second round showdown at Maldives International
Badminton Challenge 2012 on Thursday, May 31.
Srikanth, who is seventh seed in Men’s Singles draw of the event, showed his elevated class in the arena while playing against his local opponent and won the battle without facing any problem.
The higher ranked Srikanth was in his prime form as he played to his best speed and did not spare even a single chance for Rasheed to catch up the deficit at any stage and won the match in straight games with a huge margin on the board.
On the other hand, the local shuttler failed to cheer his home crowd as he was lacking the power in his shots and easily bowed down to his higher ranked Indian opponent in two games of 24 minutes.
In the opening game, the Indian took over the charge of rallies from the opening points and remained ahead of his opponent until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Rasheed tried to catch up his rival on the score board but failed to put up strong show and remained struggling to take the bird timely.
In the meanwhile, Srikanth remained positive while controlling the pace of rallies and managed to bag the first game of this match with a stunning score of 21-12.
In the following set, Rasheed played at his best speed in opening rallies but lost his control over the pace of rallies and committed unforced errors by hitting the bird out of the court.
However, the higher ranked Indian was calm and composed as he played safe badminton and remained positive until the break where he was leading the set with a huge margin.
After the break, Srikanth remained consistent in the court as he did not commit any mistake and easily finished off the game with a sensational score of 21-8.
Srikanth easily tamed Rasheed in this Men’s Singles clash in just 24 minutes with a phenomenal 21-12 and 21-8 score on the board.
