Question:

Male Flight Attendants?

I am a minority in my career and I don't mind that. Hetero-sexual males flight attendants make up roughly 4-6 percent of all flight attendants at my particular airline (which will remain unnamed for legal reasons). I do notice a difference in how passengers and other crew members react to them. Perhaps it is just a skewed perception on my part. Or perhaps it's the personalities involved. Wanting to get some theories and opinions as to why this might be just for the sake of dicussion.

  1. You might be in the minority but you are doing a great job and I don't think you deserve all the flack you get.

I often fly between Gatwick and MCO and the male attendants are far nicer than the female ones ...... more attentive and much friendlier.

  2. jeese you are a dieing breed of flight attendants so boink the next hot stewardess and make the mile high club and leave the airplane and start off fresh in whatever [place you traveled to

  3. Well, the thing to factor in is stigma.

As with nursing and secretarial work, there is a stigma that these occupations are for women and women alone. Many people find it difficult to see men in these professions as being heterosexual. Another stigma exists that men in these positions are homosexual.

If you travel through the Arabian peninsula, men fill 90% of these positions, though.

It's perspective, culture and as I said above, stigma.

Don't sweat it, man. The key is to chase your dream and not let people stand in your way. No matter what.
