Question:

Male Mouse Taming Tips?

Hey, I've had my two male mice, Tontie and Swish for about half a year now. I think I scare the h**l out of them, even when Im giving them food! No, I havent been mistreating them, I do everything I can to ensure they lead a happy life but they just seem so scared.

I put my hand into the cage and they run the opposite direction. Even with food in my hand! Even when I manage to hold one with a piece of food in my hand, It doesnt even seem to notice. It just tries to find a way out. It tries to bury between my fingers when I try to hold it. Maybe it has claustrophobia? Lol

Help plz. Thanks!

  1. feed it through the bars of the cage first.

  2. Do you have run-about-balls?

Well if you do you can put one in the ball. (if you can't hold him then just put  a treat in the ball and place the open ball in ther cage. When on goes in the ball gently tilt the ball so the opening is factry ing upwards so he can't escape then slowly lift it out of the cage. Place the top on the top then lock it on.) Hold the ball in your lap let it smell your scent and talk to it softly in your normal voice. You can also place a small wash cloth in the cage that has your scent on it. Hopefully this will help relaxe them. You should do the ball thing once a day for maybe 5 minutes then the next day increase the amount of time by approx. 5 mins until they are calmer when you do this. This always works for me.

    Good luck!!!
