If a male was with a girl a couple of years ago that had HPV at the time could they do blood work to check the male to see if he has it?

  1. Actually NO. Currently there is no clinically available test for HPV in men. Even in research settings, they test for HPV by taking scrapings from penile skin. It is NOT a blood test. Right now HPV tests are not helpful from a regular health care standpoint, and they are expensive to run. So you can't just go to your doctor and ask him to scrape your p***s and test it for HPV.

    If an ex had HPV, just behave as if you may have it as well. About 70 to 80% of all adults have come into contact with HPV at some point, so if you have had any number of partners greater than 1, then you probably have been with someone who had HPV. Most people clear it naturally. Only a small percentage have symptoms and complications.

    Condoms provide some protection against HPV, but it's not perfect. Gardasil is a vaccine that protects against 4 major strains of HPV. If your partners are under 27 yrs of age, you might want to suggest they get the vaccine.
