Male parakeet and female lovebird?

My male parakeet, Tarzan, and my female lovebird, Polly, are in love with each other. Is this normal? Because when they're separrated, they call to eachother until they're put together again. And whenever they're together, Tarzan's pupils go really tiny, and he tries to mate with Polly. Polly also shows him that she's ready to mate (by doing the mating pose). What will happen if they mate?

  1. OK first off what would happen is not inbreeding.  Inbreeding by definition is breeding between 2 closely related animals (IE mother to son, father to daughter, or brother to sister).

Now to an extent yes this is normal especially  if there is not another of the same species near them.  They would probably not produce any babies.  I do not remember this for certain but I do not think so.  so other than separating them which would be hard to do in a house since they can hear the calls from anywhere unless you have a huge house.

Just do nothing to encourage the breeding instincts.  NO paper to shred no nest box hung no extra food etc.

    Good luck

  2. this is considered inbreeding and is illegal. you can get mutated birds that have major health problems! you should discourage this as much as possible! i know it is probably hard but it is best for them. try putting them in other rooms where they cannot hear each other. it is probably because it is mating season for birds and after they settle down you can try to put them back together. good luck!

  3. Well your birds wont produce any offspring. Right now their hormones are flaring and for lack of better options they have turned to eachother, my advice would be separate them as far as u can. They will use contact calls for awhile but it will subside. After a few days or maybe a week their hormones may calm down.  Goodluck! check out www.parrotcentral.net for good bird info
