Male vs Female Gynecologists?

Which do you prefer and why? I have always had female gynos, but tomorrow I have an appointment with a male and I am a little nervous. I've heard males tend to be more gentle? Not that the females were rough.

  1. I've never been to a gynecologist but I would definitely feel more comfortable with a MALE.

  2. idk my frist time i had this really fat black man. he was nice tho

  3. I've been to both and haven't found that one is more gentle than the other. I prefer females though because they can relate to a lot of what our bodies go through.

  4. I think they are more gentle. In my experience at least. I have been to one female gynecologist that didn't do her job at all. Seriously, all she would ask me is "Do you have any questions?". Another one was in the emergency room when I was anemic. One of the nurses was gentle and caring, the other was rough and impatient. However, the doctor there was more gentle.

My current gynecologist is male. And he is absolutely great. He is gentle and if anything hurts, he'll stop and go about it completely differently. He's talkative. He talks to you so, you get your mind off of things. He walks you through things before he does it. I've been going to him about 4 years and never had a problem.

I was nervous about the whole "male gynecologist" thing too, but they aren't all perverts. The nurse is always supposed to be in the room with you while he's running tests. And he doesn't do anything he isn't supposed to do. It gets easier.

  5. I don't go to a gynecologist, I go to a GP, and she takes care of that.  I prefer female doctors.  I've gone to both, and liked some, and disliked others, of both genders.  I just figure a female doctor is more likely to take women's complaints seriously.  You hear a lot of reports of doctors blowing off women's problems as just stress or nerves without looking into them.  Besides, my 2 favorite doctors have both been women.

  6. i prefer females ...i had a male gyno once and he wasnt doing his job he would sit there and stare at my ..hoohah females get in get out and your on your way

  7. The first 2 times I had to see a gynaecologist, I went to a female gyno, but I felt very uncomfortable having a woman examine me and also felt like she didn't listen, try to understand or believe that I in fact had suffered from female related health problems.

I then went to a male gynaecologist (not by choice, I was referred and couldn't get it changed) but after that found that male gynaecologists aren't there to judge you or look at you any different to any of the other women they see each day and realised that they are only human and doing their job with their main focus and goal to help you and that your health is the most important thing to them.

I have a fantastic male gyno now that I will continue to go to for my female related health problems and one day when I have kids I would like him to be the doctor to deliver my baby. I feel like he gives me as much time as he thinks I need and he will always answer any questions I have as best he can and explain things to me until it makes sense.

We're all different, and I guess there's nothing wrong with woman gyno's - I guess it's just preference and also about experience you have with gyno's that make you chose in the end.

That's just my opinion. Good luck :)

  8. I feel more comfortable with a female, because I don't really like guys down there.  But I have heard that guys are more gentle, they probably think we're really fragile, so they don't want to hurt us.  I think you'll be fine, I'm sure the guy that you have tomorrow ill be fine.  Just don't worry about it.  More times than not, if you worry about it then something will go wrong.

    Hope I helped! :)

  9. At the end of the day, there is no difference between the 2. Both have experience and both are trained the same way.

I've always preferred male doctors over females. I think they are more thorough in my experiences. And they are gentle.

I love the doctor I have and wouldn't dare give him up... he is the best.

  10. I have a male gyno. They are supposed to be more gentle. I have never had an appointment with a female gyno before. My male gyno made me feel extremely comfortable and safe.

  11. ive always gone with female just because i feel more comfortable. i feel weird with guys staring at my v****a even though they do it all day everyday. it really just depends on the person. my mom had a female doctor until she gave birth to my younger brother and her female doctor was so rude to her. now she has to have a male no matter what. it just depends.

  12. I thought I hated female gynos until I went to a really nice one. My very first experience was with a bitchy, condescending woman. I switched to a new one and she was very professional and nice. She behaved how I would have expected a male gyno to act --very reserved.

  13. I prefer women gynos mainly because I feel I can talk to them easier about my body. I have had men do a quick check, yes I have noticed that they can be a little bit more gentle then some women I have had. But I still prefer a woman I just feel like she understands better.

  14. I have had both and in my opinion a female gyno may not be a gentle as a male but if you ever have to have a procedure done a female explains it more than a male. Also if you have depression or major PMS a female is more understanding and in my opinion helps you more and explains your options better.

  15. Female. I don't want a man looking up there.
