Malek Jaziri plonks Yu Cheng Li to secure a spot in the final eight – 2012 Green World ATP Challenger
Second seed, Malek Jaziri, trounced the local qualifier, Yu Cheng Li, in straight sets at the 2012 Green World ATP Challenger, a hard court event taking place in Pingguo, China. He joggled
up a 6-2, 6-2 victory against the 20-year-old in the second round on Thursday.
The Tunisian required 65 minutes to dump the local rising star in their first meeting. He lost his serve once in each set and manifested a lower first serve share of 49 per cent as opposed
to the Chinese’s 59 per cent. However, Jaziri capitalised on four out of nine break opportunities and capitalised fully on the several unforced errors Li committed.
After the Chinese held his serve in the opening game, Jaziri went out of control and stroke out the proceeding five games in a row with two breaks of serve. He held his serve once more in
the last game and pocketed the opener with a 6-2 success.
Jaziri carried his momentum from the opening set into the second set and went on a four-game rampage before the qualifier could hold on. He then held his remaining serves and clinched the
set with a 6-2 score line.
The 28-year-old eased past the local wild card entrant, Yu Chang, in straight set in his opening round match to reach this spot.
He will next face the sixth seeded Taiwanese, Jimmy Wang, who trashed South Korea’s Suk-Young Jeong in straight sets to set-up this duel. The sixth seed lost his serve four times but capitalised
on six out of 11 break chances to manipulate a 7-5, 7-5 victory in two hours and 12 minutes.
Tournament’s top seed, Go Soeda, also earned the limelight later that day. He got the better of Australia's Samuel Groth in straight sets in almost one and half hour.
The world number 77 blocked all nine breakpoints he came across and cashed in the only break chance to formulate a 7-6(3), 6-3 victory. He produced an equal first serve share of 63 per cent
and tremendously marked 41 out of 50 points on it to steal the show.
