Malek Jaziri pounds Mohammed Al Nabhani to reach final qualifier – Dubai Championships 2012
Malek Jaziri of Tunisia hammered the Omani contestant, Mohammed Al Nabhani, to book a berth in the final qualifying round of the Dubai Duty Free Championships. On Saturday, both contenders locked horns for the first time in their professional careers and
the second seed Tunisian contender crashed the Omani underdog in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.
It was evident that the second seed participant will rock the show; considering the ranking and professional experience of his counterpart. Nabhani had just played eleven professional matches and has not been able to make a mark in the tennis circuit. He
received a wild-card to play in the qualifying rounds but could not take advantage of yet another opportunity provided to him.
Nothing was going right for the Omani contestant. He lost the first five games of the opening set that included a couple of successful breakpoints for his opponent. The second seed, Jaziri spared just one game for the wild-card entrant and gobbled up the
first set win in comprehensive fashion.
Trailing one set down and looking absolutely clueless at the courts, Nabhani failed to devise a plan to counter the aggressive game style of his opponent. He was broken in the opening serve game of the second set and moreover trailed 3-1 down by the end
of four games. Another breakpoint for Jaziri pulled curtains for the Omani contestant who could only grab two games in the whole set; facing yet another embarrassing defeat at the professional circuit.
The second seed Jaziri has confirmed a spot in the final qualifying round against the eighth seed Kazakh, Andrey Golubev. The Kazakh defeated his compatriot, Yuri Schukin, to book a date with the Tunisian. They will face-off each other on Sunday and look
to progress into the main round of the tournament starting from Monday.
The prize money for the tournament is $1,700,475 and all matches are played on hard courts in the most spectacular sporting arena of Dubai, Decoturf II. Four qualifiers will make it to the main round of the tournament. Final qualifying round will be contested
on Sunday that will determine these four lucky players.
