Malek Jaziri sends Denis Istomin packing in opening round – Slovak Open 2011
Malek Jaziri, Tunisian world No.118, proved an upset in the tour beating down his opening round challenger of Slovak Open, Denis Istomin, world No.72 and the third seed of the event, with a spectacular comeback in the decider set winning, 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-3,
in a long two hour and 19 minutes indoor hard circuit match on Wednesday, 16th of November 2011.
Kicking off with the match, Istomin took his side to serve the match opener. Serving out the starter, the 25-year-old Uzbek swirled away with an easy first game win rolling down the scoreboard, 1-0. Following the world No.72, Jaziri made his start to the
match serving out his opening game levelling the scores, 1-1.
Continuing with the set, Istomin bagged winners of his serve, however, was unable to captivate any breakpoint throughout the set. Jaziri followed the Uzbek; evening out scores and eventually the set went into a tiebreaker with Jaziri to start first.
Serving out first, Jaziri took out the initial point, however, Istomin covered up right away. After the first point, Tunisian world No.118 overcame the higher ranked rival and devoured the tiebreaker winning 7-3, and finishing off the set with a 7-6(3) win.
Struggling and more over, loosing from a well differentiated rival, Istomin made a comeback in the second set. Jaziri took the start however, the Uzbek world No.72 blew the Tunisian 27-year-old away as he levelled up the scores winning game two, 1-1, and
broke the lower ranked competitor in the third game to lead the scoreboard, 2-1.
Adding another winning to his scores, game four, Istomin now led the table, three games to one. Covering up the lead, Jaziri pulled back however was unable to break back any soon. Eventually, with the two winning game of their serves, the set ended with
scores at 6-4 in favour of the Uzbek.
Levelling up the match scores with the second set win, Istomin now went to play the decider, however, felt a strong comeback by the lower ranked Tunisian. Jaziri came up spectacular as he took away the first three games in no time. Serving out the first,
the 27-year-old broke in the second and served out the third to lead 3-nil.
 Finally, serving out his second service game and his first win for the set, Istomin rolled down his side of the scoreboard, however, the Uzbek world No.72 was unable to break back. With a rock solid defence, Tunisian world No.118 held his serves and bagged
winner to eventually end the set winning, 6-3, and the match with a strapping comeback.
Through to the second stage of the ATP Challenger Tour event, Jaziri now goes on to play against Czech international, Jan Minar, for the quarter-final spot of Slovak Open 2011.
