Malek Jaziri defeats Konstantin Kravchuk; wins with 6-3 and a bagel – Istanbul Challenger 2011
Working his way into the 2nd round of the Istanbul Challenger 2011, Malek Jaziri, Tunisian, went on hampering his round 2 challenger, Konstantin Kravchuk, Russian and making his way into the quarter-final of the ATP
Challenger tour. It took the Tunisian just above an hour to finish off with the Russian world No.165 6-3, 6-0.
Although the two rivals did not have that much difference in ranking, however, the world no.165 was truly the superior player. With amazing stats, 8 wins 2 losses, in the past 10 matches, Jaziri had a greater chance of winning
and proved worthy of his ranking. On the other hand, Kravchuk had a stunner. Even though the 26-year-old had been formerly a higher ranked player, world No.126, he still could not find his best form to play against the Tunisian.
Moving on with rather a quick match, Jaziri warmed up as he had won the toss and opted to serve first. Opening the match with a cheer from the crowd, the Tunisian went on banging the 1st game of set 1. With an early
break, Jaziri grabbed an early lead, 2-0 and commanded the set.
Extending his lead further on, the 27-year-old put forward a strong defence and a great net play to outdo his opponent. With scores now at 3-0, Kravchuk finally won his first game of the match and stood to cut the lead to 1-3.
However, failing to break Jaziri back, he lost another set and watched the higher ranked rival drive off to an amazing 3 games lead.
Maintaining the 3 games lead, the 26-year-old stormed through the first set winning 6-3 and led the match 1-0. With the analyst thinking for the Russian’s comeback in the next set, Jaziri slapped them with a greater hand.
Starting off with winning a breakpoint in the first game, the Tunisian went on thrashing the Russian world No.165. Jaziri won back-to-back 6 games and took away the set effortlessly to win the fixture in straight sets.
Winning the 2nd round 6-3 and a bagel, the right hander now moves on into the quarter-final round of the Istanbul Open 2011 to play the winner of the tie between Andre Ghem of Brasil and the Russian, Mikhail Ledovskikh,
as they battle out to rival the Tunisian in the quarter-final round.
