Males only? Petsmart, UGG!?

Question

Does anyone know why petsmart only sells male hamsters? DO male or female hamsters make better pets?

The males are easier to sell without worry of having babies popping up. If they were to sell females, and they got one that had a litter in one of their cages, it would have to be held until the babies were weaned before they could sell them. (Taking up space and losing the company money)

Males are more laid back and cuddly. The females can get aggressive when they are pregnant or have new babies.  Also, if you are looking to breed hamsters, it is best not to get a male and female from the same store. There is too much risk of it being a sibling which will cause birth defects.

they do it so that they don't promote breeding,I asked them once.....I prefer rats,but as far as hamsters go I have had good and bad experiences with both genders,I think it depends on the individual,though the females might get testy while in heat...and the males mark a little more...so its all in the individual...

I did not know the male female thing...I do know if ya got a male and a female in a cage you get a lot of hamsters...found that out the hard way with my daughters hamsters....peace
