Malia Manuel wins heat 3 of Round 1: ASP 6-Star Estoril Surf & Music Billabong Girls Pro
After the sizzling performances of Phillipa Anderson of Australia and Tanika Hoffman (ZAF), another surfer from Hawaii, Malia Manuel came out strongly and gave her impressive performance in heat 3 of Round 1 at the 2011 ASP 6-Star Estoril Surf & Music Billabong
Girls Pro at Praia do Guincho in Portugal, on June 10, 2011.
Manuel picked up the top seed in the corresponding heat with a winning score of 12.50 points out of a 20 possible points, as opposed to Peru’s surfer, Anali Gomez, who was placed second with a total score of 11.85 points. It was a neck and neck battle between
Hawaiian and Peru surfers, where Gomez lost the heat with a fringe margin of 0.65 points.
After the conclusion of heat 3 in Round 1, Gomez claimed that she was not pleased with her effort by any means while surfing under the challenging waves. Placed third in heat 3 of Round 1 at the ASP 6-Star Estoril Surf & Music Billabong Girls Pro was Brazilian
surfer, Barbara Segatto, who captured only a small score of 6.35 points out of a 20 possible points.
Due to her unsatisfactory performance in the corresponding heat, Segatto was not able to surge into the next stage of the event and was knocked out of the tournament. She admitted that she put forward a below par performance and she was not satisfied with
her effort in the respective event.
Malia Manuel will vie in heat 5 of Round 2 against three other surfers including Erica Hosseini of USA, Paige Hareb of New Zealand and Amandine of France. Manuel is considered to be the favourite surfer who has good chances to clinch the heat.
Meanwhile, Anali Gomez will compete with two Australian surfers, Dimity Stoyle and Felicity Palmateer and French surfer, Anne Cecile Le Tallec in heat 6 of Round 2 at Praia do Guincho beach. The heat is sure to be a thrilling one as all surfers will look
to move into the next round.
