  1. he was offered but he turned it down.

  2. Yeah, that was the offer. And tax free. The problem is, and I assume this is why Malkin turned it down, these Russian teams have a bad habit of throwing these big $$$ contracts out there for the press to eat up without having any intention or ability of paying it. They don't have the revenue streams to absorb that kind of money for a single player.

  3. The money was tax free too...he doesn't want it though.

  4. Actually, that rumor isn't true. His agent gave a statement saying that Mettalursk never even approached Geno, and that the big guy really hopes to stay in Pittsburgh. In fact, if I heard correctly, next month Malkin's agent and the Pens are going to try and work out an agreement so that he can stay.

  5. No, he isn't going back to Russia, he actually just signed with the penguins again, this article states it

I think he's an outstanding player, and I'm glad that he chose to stay.. it shows that he's more about the game than the money... and it pissed me off when everyone was giving him c**p about how he played in the playoffs this year, unfortunately, i think he was going through his "sophomore slump" and hopefully next year, he comes up better than ever, it takes some loses to fix what you've done wrong and come out better in the end

  6. Why hasn't anyone mentioned... that Malkin has ONE YEAR LEFT on his contract, meaning he can't just up and go anywhere without playing out his contract first... and that the IIHF just won't allow it anyway?: http://penguins.nhl.com/team/app/?servic...

See, he violates that... no more international play for Malkin. My, my, but the Russians are probably benefitting from the media exposure.

Anyway, in my humble opinion, Malkin stays with the Penguins! Okay, so that might be a little biased coming from a Pens fan. I do know that just because Malkin says he wants to sign with the Penguins and just because the media reports that the salary is all that needs to be negotiated, doesn't mean that anyone but Malkin and his agent can be 100% sure he'll sign with the Penguins. And no one but the Penguins front office (and specifically Ray Shero) can be 100% sure he won't be traded to another team for a pick or two and a bag of pucks (or Tim Horton's coffee and donuts, if it's a Canadian franchise, hehe).

  7. i heard the offer was free of tax? that might make me rethink the offer if i was him lol

  8. He has turned it down because he loves the NHL competition.

  9. Yea 12.5 million rubles - I think that's worth about $2.96!

  10. He was offered it........
