Malmo versus Rangers – UEFA Champions League qualification: Second leg – Second half (Part 2)
After playing the first 10 minutes of the second half in a cautious manner, Malmo pushed forward for their first goal of the match in the 61st minute when they were awarded yet another corner kick by the referee. Wilton
stepped up to take the corner kick and his delivery into the Rangers penalty area was a perfect one as it found Pekalski who was being marked by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Edu-c12016. Luckily for the away team, the tall defender headed the ball over the Rangers goal and as a result the score
line remained at one nil to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314.
In the 65th minute, Naismith went into the referee’s book. He was penalized by the referee for what seemed to be a fair challenge at the start but the full back’s frustration got the better of him as he knocked the ball
away in annoyance to the referee’s decision, a gesture which deserved a yellow card from the referee. In the 66th minute, Rangers were reduced down to nine men thanks to a second sending off within their ranks. This time it was Bougherra who led
with his elbow into an aerial challenge.
The referee spotted this dangerous play and deservedly punished the right back with a red card. Down to nine men but leading the home team by a goal to nil, Rangers sat back and defended for their lives for the rest of the second
half. In the 70th minute, Dardan was replaced by Jeffrey Aubeyn for Malmo as the second half substitute was injured due to Bougherra’s elbow smashing into the side of his head.
In the 73rd minute, Rangers were given a hope of revival as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ricardinho-c30946 was sent off for a second bookable offence by the referee. Already on a yellow card from the first half, the Brazilian was penalized for tackling
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ortiz-c28691 from the back. In the 75th minute, Rangers had a golden chance to add to their one goal advantage as Naismith was found in space inside the Malmo penalty area. The full back squared the ball towards Jelavic who was unable to finish the move
off despite being in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper.
In the 81st minute, Malmo finally equalized thanks to a brilliant volley by Hamad. After Larsson spurned the opening chance from a corner kick, Hamad produced a fantastic volley from the edge of the Rangers penalty area
as the loose ball fell kindly for him. With a draw on the cards as the score line lay at rest at 1-1, Malmo decided to play the rest of the game out by holding onto the ball. The match thus eventually came to a close with an aggregate win for Malmo, as they
gained a 2-1 win over the two legs after winning the first leg in Glasgow by a goal to one and then drawing the second leg.
