Malouda to keep inspiring Chelsea
Chelsea's French winger Florent Malouda has stated his intention to help his team defend the Premier League title this season.
Three games into the season, Chelsea are top of the league table with three consecutive wins and an impressive goal difference of 14-0 following two 6-0 wins and a 2-0 victory over Stoke on Saturday.
Malouda, who with his four goals so far is joint top scorer in the league alongside his teammate Didier Drogba, told Chelsea's official website that he wants his form to serve a particular end: winning the league title for the second consecutive season.
"I am building my confidence, trying to show game after game my quality but you have to stay calm and we shall see at the end of the season," Malouda said.
"The most important for me was to win the Premier League last year and now that I am champion, I want to stay a champion."
Form showed under Hiddink
Malouda was signed by Jose Mourinho in 2007, but it wasn't until Guus Hiddink's four-month stint at the club in 2009 that he really began to thrive.
During his first season, the 30-year-old went six months without scoring, a slump in form that seems unimaginable today.
"Now I get the result of the hard work I did from the first day I signed for Chelsea," he said, insisting that his return to form has not been down to chance. "Maybe now people get to know me and they notice more of what I do."
Supplied by Terry against Stoke
The encounter with Stoke was the third consecutive game in which Malouda scored Chelsea's opening goal.
Having made a trademark, diagonal run, Malouda collected John Terry's precise through ball and chipped keeper Thomas Sorensen from the edge of the penalty box.
After the match, the Frenchman was full of praise for Terry, whose contribution showed a deft touch not many central defenders could produce.
'It was a good interception from John and I knew I had to time my run. I knew exactly where he would put the ball and after I knew about the movement of the goalie," Malouda said about the move that was apparently taken from the Chelsea training ground.
"That is what we worked on this week and when it happens in the game you have to apply that. We are working every day and every week on those movements."
