Question:

Malware from Yahoo 'Answers'

I just went through a long, torrid episode of deleting "Windows XPAntivirus 2008" and "Antispyware" from my computer. Cost me a total of $60 and was successful after a lot of effort. I've NEVER had it before and have done tons of internet surfing. Now, with a squeaky clean system, I visit "Answers" again on Yahoo--have only been here once before now--I've clicked on probably 40 questions, and have had the flashing Malware stuff take over the screen again. Now I suspect this is where I got it to begin with. Anybody else have the same thing happen? What, if anything, does Yahoo do to find this on "Answers" and (last thing) are people posting Malware as questions? Hate to be so stupid, but I'm trying to learn. Feel like I'm taking my chances just logging on to Yahoo unless there is something I can do about it. (I have a new E2 Malware system now.

  2. yep, When I don't have my firewall running, I get that c**p taking over everytime I come here.

  3. You likely have a trojan downloader on your computer that keeps downloading new versions of the malware. It is very likely a Smitfraud infection.

Why not try this removal procedure that I use?

The standard tool to remove Smitfraud is a freebie called SmitfraudFix:

    http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix...

This should take care of the icons and pop-up "warnings'.

As a final step, scan for trojans and spyware and remove (free online scan, no download) with Ewido.(Now called AVG Anti-spyware. Not the same as AVG Anti-virus)

    http://www.ewido.net/en/

This makes sure that the original Trojan, possibly a Zlob or a Renos, which caused all your misery in the first place, is totally removed. If Zlob remains, it can "phone home" again and re-infect your computer.

If you mouse over my avatar, you will see that I spend a LOT of time on Yahoo Answers.  I have never been infected with any malware.

    Good luck.

  4. well, the situation is this, no matter which site you're surfing, there're other servers of which you're connecting. And these servers could have malware viruses etc. Because of this, don't trust any  site, because the server is the key point. Secondly, real time protection. Real time protection of antiviruses are their weaknesses. In other words, you should stop the spywares on door. Some industrial leaders in fact have low capability of this. Tested and confirmed. So, what's the solution. You don't need to pay extra 60 bucks again. If you own your, windows xp cd or vista, just format your system and reinstall xp, go to windows website, instal sp3, and go to find a best antivirus and firewall solution. Suites, internet securities etc. Last word is, nobody is secure online whoever you're, but let's say, some guys trying to make it more secure that's all.
