Mambo Meister and Mad Flatter to go against each other yet again the Spend a Buck Handicap
The Grade 3, $100,000 Spend a Buck Handicap reels in seven older horses including the winners of the last two edition of the race, 6-year-old horse Mad Flatter and the 6-year-old gelding Mambo Meister, who will lock horns again in the 1 1/16 mile race at Calder racecourse on 15 October.
The two horses met in the 2010 edition of the Spend a Buck Handicap and ended up the top two finishers of the race, while Mad Flatter defeating Mambo Meister with the winning time of 1 minute and 46.37 seconds on dirt.
The son of Flatter, out of Miss Pangea by Honor Grades, Mad Flatter hasn’t been that successful in the 2011 season, participating in two stakes races without luck and then going back to allowance claimers and winning the second of the two and entering the winning circle once this year.
On the other hand, the Philip Gleaves trained son of King Cugat, Mambo Meister has been slightly successful than his counterpart, bagging two stakes races.
Beginning with Mecke Stakes on turf at Calder on 25 June at about 1 1/8 miles, Mambo Meister defeated John Johny Jak with the winning time of 1 minute and 53.05 seconds.
His second victory came in right after the Mecke Stakes, when he ran in the Primal Stakes also at Calder racecourse on 24 July, 2011, on dirt this time at about 1 1/16 miles, covering the distance in 1 minute and 45.17 seconds.
Out of Bleu’slittlesecret by Desert Secret, Mambo Meister is coming off a non threatening 7th place finish in the Grade 1Woodward Stakes, where he had to contend with the likes of Havre de Grace, Flat Out and Rule.
Mambo Meister won the 2009 edition of the Spend a Buck Handicap, and it was the 6-year-old gelding’s first graded stakes victory.
The Quantum Racing Team’s number 1 Mambo Meister bagged two additional graded stakes win in the year 2010, and also has gone on to win two stakes races this year, which has improved his overall record to 11 wins.
