Mambo Meister will carry top weight in the Fred W. Hooper Handicap at Calder
The 6-year-old Philip Gleaves gelding, Mambo Meister whose Grade 1 Woodward Stakes outing at Saratoga was invalidated due to unfortunate events surrounding him over the track is now back to atone for his defeat there to participate in the Grade 3 Fred. W
Hooper Handicap at Calder Casino and race course on 26 November, 2011.
 The $100,000 pursed race will be run over a distance of one and one eighth miles and it has reeled in 8 3-year-old and above males, as Mambo Meister will carry a top weight of 121 pounds.
The Kentucky bred son of King Cugat, out of mare Bleu’slittlesecret by Desert Secret, Mambo Meister is owned by Quantum Racing Team.
The 6-year-old gelding finished 3rd in the 2010 edition of the Fred W. Hooper Handicap at Calder, and since then his stumbled couple of times and apart from that Mambo Meister turned in a pretty good summer at Calder.
He was 6th in the Grade 3 Miami Mile at Calder in his season opener, but bounced back impressively to finish second in his next start in the Memorial Day Handicap at about 1 1/16 miles on dirt to winner Motovato.
It was smooth sailing afterwards, as he bagged back to back races starting from the Mecke Stakes at Calder racecourse on turf over at 1 1/8 miles where he defeated John Johny Jak and Wingedlie, who finished second and third respectively, with the winning
time of 1 minute and 53.05 seconds.
Switching to dirt, Mambo Meister then landed the Primal Stakes at about 1 1/16 miles with the winning time of 1 minute and 45.17 seconds before falling to a solid lineup in the Woodward Stakes in seventh place.
Mambo Meister will be going into the Fred W. Hooper Handicap with a solid, close second place finish in the Grade 3 Spend a Buck Handicap on 15 October, 2011, at Calder racecourse to winner Mad Flatter and third place finisher Stimulus Plan.
The ones to look out for in the Hooper Handicap will be Stimulus Plan, Sky Venture and Flatter This, these were the horses who also competed in the Spend a Buck Handicap.
