Ian Gorowa, coach of the Mamelodi Sundowns, has hailed the efforts of his boys after they defeated Kaizer Chiefs in an ABSA Premiership game. The match was played on Sunday, May 1 at the Loftus Stadium.
This victory has left Sundowns only five points adrift of the current leaders http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ajax-Cape-Town-c38250 and they have a game in hand as compared to their title rivals. Orlando Pirates are two points clear of the Sundowns and are at the second spot with 56 points while
Kaizer Chiefs are just one point behind Gorowa’s outfit with 53.
Sundowns started the game fourth in the table behind the Amakhosi but earned an all important win that has kept their title hopes alive. Ian Gorowa praised the efforts of his players, Nyasha Mushekwi and Elias Pelembe, who netted in two goals for the Sundowns
and this win enabled them to topple their opponents on the points table.
The coach hoped that his team could continue with the same momentum and hoped that Sundowns could end up winning the title. He urged his team to work hard and admitted that this victory has helped his side gain a lot of confidence ahead of their three most
important games of the season.
Manager further added, “We fought hard; we showed good character and I am very happy with the three points. Today the players showed that they wanted it more, hence the result, he said. We have to play three games in the space of a week, but we are well
prepared and will take it one game at a time. This victory against Chiefs has raised the spirit in the team and given the players more confidence that we can do it. They know we must continue fighting until the end.”
Sundowns were extremely good during the game and hardly allowed Chiefs to press forward in the wake of some resilient defending. This did build frustration amongst some Amakhosi players but they were forced to deal with it and in the end were at the receiving
end.
Sundowns, with three games in hand will next play away at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AmaZulu-c38388 on Wednesday, May 4 and a victory there will leave them only two points adrift of the leaders Ajax.
