Mamma Kimbo out of Kentucky Oaks, Sacristy in to replace her
The 3-year-old lightly race filly, Mamma Kimbo, is owned by John Fort’s Peachtree Stable, and the Grade 2 Fantasy Stakes winner was Kentucky Oaks bound until yesterday, but she isn’t anymore, and instead of Churchill Downs, the Bob Baffert trained filly
will look to run at Pimlico Race Course in the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes on 18 May, 2012.
Bred in Kentucky, Mamma Kimbo is the daughter of Discreet Cat, out of Devil’s Bag mare Bag Lady Jane. She showed how good she is, when she came off her maiden special weight victory at first asking, and bagged the Grade 2 Fantasy Stakes at about 1 1/16 miles
at Oaklawn Park on 11 April, 2012.
According to John Fort, the filly is doing fine and said she came out of the Grade 2 Fantasy Stakes just fine, as Mamma Kimbo posted a 1 ¼ length victory over Amie’s Dini.
“(Mamma Kimbo) is doing fine, but we just had the feeling that she ran pretty hard in Arkansas,” said Fort. “When you start running horses three weeks apart, it catches up to them. She also doesn’t have a huge foundation; she only has two races.”
John Fort will be represented in the Run for the Lilies on 4 May, 2012, at Churchill Downs, even if Mamma Kimbo isn’t going for it, because he has the Grade 3 winner, Sacristy to do the job.
Trained by Wayne M. Catalano, the 3-year-old filly, Sacristy took three attempts to break her maiden, but when it came she was ready to step up in class, and she grabbed the opportunity to down the Grade 3 Old Hat Stakes at Gulfstream Park on 1 January,
2011, where she defeated, Say A Novena, in second.
“We all have to question whose going to get the distance and who isn’t, but she’s by Pulpit

She’s earned her way into the race, and we’re going to take a shot with her.”
