Mamma Kimbo will be running for her hat-trick in the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes
The undefeated 3-year-old filly, Mamma Kimbo is eyeing to make it three in a row in the 88th running of the Grade 2, $300,000 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes on 18 May, 2012, over a distance of 1 1/18 miles over the dirt track of the Pimlico Race Course.
The $300,000 event has reeled in a competitive lineup of 9, 3-year-old fillies, with Mamma Kimbo declared as the 6 to 5 favourite. The Bob Baffert trained filly will break from post number 4 under jockey Mike Smith.
The 2011 edition of the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan produced the 3-year-old champion filly, Royal Delta, and in the current lineup, there is definitely some potential that can go the distance by the year’s end, and rise above this year’s crop of 3-year-old
fillies.
Peachtree Stable’s Mamma Kimbo an eye catching winner of her first two starts will definitely have her work cut out in the 1 1/8 mile race that is rife with potential.
The Kentucky bred daughter of Discreet Cat, Mamma Kimbo broke her maiden at first asking in great fashion, as she eased over the track to turn in the six furlong distance in 1 minute and 7.94 seconds on 18 February, 2012 at Santa Anita Park under jockey
Martin Garcia.
In her second career start, rider Mike Smith took over from Martin Garcia in the Grade 2 Fantasy Stakes at Oaklawn Park on 11 April, 2012, and downed the stretched out distance of 1 1/16 miles in 1 minute and 43.64 seconds, and defeated Amie’s Dini and Jemima’s
Pearl in the stretch, who finished second and third, respectively.
However, Chad Brown trained 3-year-old filly, Welcome Guest is right up there with a shot of winning the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes with the odds of 4 to 1.
She will break right alongside Mamma Kimbo from post number 3 under jockey Ramon Dominguez.
A maiden break at second attempt, trainer Chad Brown thinks highly of her 3-year-old filly, who ran a respectable race in the Grade 3 Comely Stakes at Aqueduct racetrack at a mile and finished a whisker adrift of the winner, Broadway’s Alibi in second.
