Mamma Kimbo worked well ahead of her start in the Kentucky Oaks
The May 4 Grade 1, $1 million Kentucky Oaks bound 3-year-old filly, Mamma Kimbo, has just raced twice, once at Santa Anita Park and the second time at Oaklawn Park, but the most important thing out of that ordinary piece of stat is that she remained undefeated throughout, and now she is ready to make a huge leap in class with a start in the Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs on 4 May, 2012.
Trained by Bob Baffert for Peachtree Stable, the lightly race Mamma Kimbo worked ahead of the Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs on 24 April, 2012, for trainer Bob  Baffert.
The 3-year-old filly drill five furlongs with an impressive time of 1 minute and 1 4/5 seconds, and the bay daughter of Discreet Cat was timed in fractional splits.
Out of mare Bag Lady Jane by Devil’s Bag, Mamma Kimbo went her four furlongs, and timed the first quarter mile in 12 1/5 seconds and 24 2/5 seconds, and covered her half mile distance in 37 seconds and 49 seconds flat, as she galloped out six furlongs in 1 minute and 15 seconds flat, and completed her workout with going seven furlongs in 1 minute and 28 1/5 seconds.
It was a good workout ahead of the Kentucky Oaks, and just like Bob Baffert trainer Liaison, who is bound for the Grade 1, $2 million Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on 5 May, 2012, Mamma Kimbo handled the track well, and gave Baffert enough confidence to start her in the Oaks.
Bred in Kentucky by William Betz, Dr. Chuck Kidder, and Wayne Masterman, Mamma Kimbo broke her maiden special weight race at first asking and posted a 5 ¼ lengths victory over the runner up at Santa Anita Park, over a distance of 6 furlongs.
Stepped up in class in her next start, Mamma Kimbo on 11 April, 2012, competed in the Grade 2 Fantasy Stakes where she defeated, Amie’s Dini by 1 ¼ lengths with the winning time of 1 minute and 43.64 seconds over the Oaklawn Park’s dirt course, as Jemima’s Pearl finished third on the day.
