Hockey fans, have you ever underestimated your team, only to be humbled later on?

  1. You just need ketchup.  You'll feel better about it once the Wings beat them.  ;-)  jk

I can't say I've underestimated my team.  I've sat back and watched them enough pull off unbelievable come-from-behind wins.  I guess I'm just the opposite - or truly an optimist - but I don't count them out until the third period . . . or the playoff run ends.

  2. Ahh, those heady days when the Flyers were looking like the champs.....

My, oh my, what a long season it was.....

  3. i never underestimate my team!

  4. If you check out LITY's answer you see we all eat some crow from time to time. When the Flyers were playing the Habs in the second round I didn't wonder if we'd lose but if we would have gotten swept.Oops!

  5. Yes, it has happened before...

That question is really eerie! Haha

  6. I had to eat some crow this season regarding my Flyers, but your crow appears to be far more flavorful than mine.  I predicted a playoff appearance and first round exit.  Mine wasn't half bad though.

  7. No, I have not. But I have OVERestimated my team, only to be ridiculed later on. Does that count? lol

    ~

Although, I do have to say, I never expected the Avs to beat the Wild. The way we played them throughout the entire reg. season, it just did not look possible at all. I was pleasantly surprised.

  8. Wow, Here's to the Sporting News calling the finalists. If Detroit succumbs to the Pens, I will tip my hat in all sincerity. Don't see it happening, though, sorry.

As for doubting my team, please see the 2007 football Giants. Hated the coach and the QB made me physically ill for 10 weeks in the Fall. I actually wanted them to drop the last 5 games so Bill Cowher could be their coach in 2008 and didn't care if Eli Manning was given an outright release.

So, how do they secure the trophy? Coaching and quarterbacking. How do you like them apples? At least they clipped the Pats. 18-1 has a really nice ring to it.

  9. Six months ago the Sporting News said that?

I underestimated the Devils the first time.

  10. After all of the transactions over the summer, my dad and brother kept trying to convince me that the Devils weren't going to make the playoffs, and told me not to get my hopes up so I won't get disappointed later.  I told them that the Devils are going to make the playoffs, but be a lower seed.  The Devils were the 4th in the East, and ended the season with 99 points.  Not bad for a team that lost their best offenseman and defenseman (Rafalski and Gomez) in that summer.  I was confident in my team, but the rest of my family wasn't.  So when the Devils made the playoffs, and were first in the Atlantic for a good part of the season, I was the one to go "HA!  IN YOUR FACE!"  :-)

  11. No never i am a Bruins fan. I could use problems like yours.

  12. I do it all the time, but this year I had it WRONG.  Detroit is my favorite team and I figured they would be eliminated in round 2 because I didn't see the hunger in them this year.  I'm glad I was wrong.

    Let's go Red Wings!!!!!

  13. I honestly thought the Blue Jackets would finish dead last this year, they did not finish with a great record, but they had a strong chance to make the playoffs until about February, and began to slip.

  14. Ah how sweet it is.

I personally enjoy all the people who said "Out in the first round due to poor goaltending" none in that question but a lot of people said it.

  15. It was the complete opposite in Leaf land this year.

of course i havn't been around forever and i was fooled by the leafs leading on that we would make it into the playoffs.. im sure they believed it.. but unfortunatly we're not in dream world.. you actually have to produce.

Paul Maurice was so sure that we would make the playoffs and hopefully compete for the cup this year, although sadly it didn't happen, Jason Blake suffered from cancer after he was supposed to help save us. Tucker Sucked this year as well. On the good side, Matt Stajan proved he could potentially be a first line center and Nik Antropov proved that he doesn't dwell on his ailed past.

i now feel a lot better about this season then i did about 10 minutes ago now that i picked the positives..

Here's to Hal Gill (and the penguins) Hoisting the cup

and here's to another great NHL season after this one.

  16. If the Flames win, then "we" win

If the Flames lose, then "they" lose

  17. Last yr as many know the Red Sox won the World Series. I picked them over the Padres or Mets at the beginning of the yr. It looked good they were once up 14.5gms over the Yansk in June. Still the Yanks started to improve at midseason: Abreu and Damon started hitting, Rivera regined form, Hughes and Chamberlin came up. And the Sox started playing .500 ball. In late August the lead was 8gms heading into a 3gm series w/the Yanks at Yankee Stadium. I figure  if we can win 1 we're good, 2 it's over. Well the Yanks masacre us sweeping us and cutting the lead to 5 w/35 to go. I'm thinkin 1978 all over 9 (when the Yanks rallied from a 14gmd epicit and beat Boston in a 1gm playoff on Bucky F***** Dent's 3run shot off Mike Torrez). On top of that Manny Ramirez was injured in Gm 1 and missed a month. I figured it's over 78 All over Again.

Luckily JacobY Ellsbury and Clay Buckholtz came up and we improved and won the divison for the first time since 95 and of course the WS
