Half-time report
Will Joe Cole’s goal at Old Trafford be enough?
Sir Alex Ferguson’s side welcomed Chelsea to Old Trafford today in a game which promises to be full of drama and could very well be this year’s title decider. However, with half the game already gone underway, things aren’t looking good for Fergie’s side as Manchester United already trail behind by one goal.
Joe Cole scored the opener in 20 minutes for the Blues with a stylish back-heel thanks to the assistance of Florent Malouda. The only drama being witnessed at the moment is seeing Carlo Ancelloti’s men running rings around the current champions of the Premier League.
The Reds hold a one point advantage over the Blues in the current standings and conceding a loss today could be very costly indeed. Arsenal fans will surely be tuned in today hoping for a tie to re-ignite their chances in the title race. A result which I’m sure any United fan would also be happy to take from today’s game.
The absence of Wayne Rooney is clearly being reflected so far in the terms of performance. Dimitar Berbatov was always going to be the obvious replacement and so far I just feel he is alone up front and needs support. Maybe Ferguson should reshuffle the midfield and think about bringing Macheda on.
Whatever changes Fergie decides to make during the half time break, he needs to ensure that his team brings more pace into the game. Ancelloti’s team haven’t really been affected much with the absence of Didier Drogba from the startling line-up, the manager will most probably be spending his time in the changing rooms giving every player a tap on the shoulder for their efforts and I wouldn’t be surprised if he keeps things the same.
Will United turn things around in the second half? Or will Cole’s goal be enough to give Chelsea the win.
