i bought a jl audio 12 inch w6 for 300 then i bought a q-logic box from bestbuy for 120. the other day i was bass'n loud usually not from what i do and then i smelt something. the last time i smelt that smell i blew my sub. so i turned down the music and checked it smelt like the wood from the box. my woofer was still working the bass and all was still hitting like i first got it. there no rattling or anything i mean clear bass. if you know jl audio then you know what i mean. but i dont know where the smell came from it wasnt my amp or anything. someone please answer cause i dont have warranty anymore on my sub but like i said i dont think that is the problem it still hits with no problem. also my box is breaking lately could that be a factor??????

  1. does it smell like the wood or is it the smell of overheating voice coils.....u may need a new box but i dont think thats the main issue...id say chances are youre overpowering the sub.....

    is this your sub?

    http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs....

wattage from amp to sub varies depending on how you wire it and there r different methods depending on if that sub is dual 4 ohm or dual 2 ohm

the rms of the sub on the link is 600 watts which means anything more is too much.....also the increasing summer heat is something to consider....move your amp to a better spot where possibly the ac can hit it and dont max out gain settings and bass boost
