Mana Ayukawa downs Thanthita Suetrong to enter quarters – Chang ITF Pro Circuit 2012
Japanese challenger, Mana Ayukawa, eased past the local wild card entrant, Thanthita Suetrong, with a breadstick at the Chang ITF Pro Circuit 2012 on Wednesday. She penned down a 6-4, 6-1 victory against the 16-year-old to book a spot in the quarter-finals
at the Rama Garden Sport Complex in Bangkok, Thailand.
Ayukawa displayed flawless tennis to outsmart Suetrong in their first encounter. After recording the victory in almost an hour and 15 minutes, the Japanese assertively entered the last eight at this ITF (International Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit event
taking place from 10th to 16th December.
The Japanese convincingly entered this outdoor hard court tournament. She drew the first blood in the opening game and took the initial lead. Regardless of losing her edge in the very next game, Ayukawa remained calm and broke her rival’s serve once again.
She then held her composure and subsequently clicked the opener by winning six games to four. The Japanese dusted away two out of three breakpoints she encountered and converted two out of five break chances to her advantage.
Ranked 715th in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Ayukawa went berserk in the following set. She reeled off five games in a row before Suetrong could snatch a break back. The Japanese maintained her intensity and after breaking
her rival’s serve again, she clicked the set with a breadstick. Ayukawa failed to block the lone breakpoint she came across but cashed half of the six break chances to achieve her goal.
Next in line for Ayukawa is the Chinese challenger, Yafan Wang, who received a walkover against the Lithuanian qualifier, Akvile Parazinskaite, to set up this meeting.
The fifth seed, Nungnadda Wannasuk, will accompany Ayukawa in the following round. She recorded a 6-2, 3-2 retirement victory against her local wild card compatriot, Kamonwan Buayam, to reach this place. The seed was leading 3-2 with a break of serve when
her fellow citizen was forced to pull out form the tournament with a back injury.
Wannasuk will face off the second seed, Wing-Yau Venise Chan, who bounced back to overpower her qualifying compatriot, Xiaorong Dong, in a three-set thriller to advance.
