Manager Avram Grant believes that West Ham are building up momentum
West Ham United manager Avram Grant believes that the Hammers are building up momentum, something which will be vital in their quest to avoid relegation in the ongoing 2010-11 season of the Barclays Premier League. Grant’s comments come in the wake of West
Ham’s 3-0 thumping of Stoke City at Upton Park on Saturday, 5th March.
The victory against Stoke was West Ham’s second consecutive Premier League win, an achievement which the club hasn’t managed in over a year. More importantly, the result ensured that the Hammers climbed out of the drop zone, staying on course to complete
a great escape from relegation this season.
Things could have been very different indeed had Stoke capitalised on their early dominance. However, the visitors proved to be the architects of their own downfall. West Ham’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Demba-Ba-c10812 was gifted the first goal of the match after a mix-up between Stoke
keeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marc-Wilson-c23501. Ba took full advantage of the opportunity, giving his side a vital one-goal lead.
From then on, it was all downhill for Stoke City. Da http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Costa-c9458 increased West Ham’s lead with an unstoppable header, and Hitzlsperger put the final nail in the Stoke coffin with his 83rd minute strike.
West Ham manager Avram Grant believes that the result is vital in his side’s hopes of avoiding relegation this season, claiming that the Hammers are now building up a head of steam.
He said, “We have momentum at the right time. We will not score three goals every game, that's for sure, nobody is doing this. I believe in this football, I believe in attacking football. You need balance, and we're getting the balance better and better
every game.”
He added, “But we have many players forward that can score now. I must say all the new signings are doing well, and also the players that played before.”
With the victory, West Ham United moved up into 17th place in the Barclays Premier League standings.
