Manager Bruce Bouchy places faith in Barry Zito to make fourth start for club
The San Francisco Giants are hard at work in Scottsdale, Arizona. They’re goal is to be ready for the World Series title defence in the 2011 Major League Baseball campaign.
They have a good rotation and manager, Bruce Bouchy, has a lot of choices to make this season.
However, with a long list of aces in the hole, Bruce has gone ahead to confirm that Barry Zito will make the first choice rotation on the fourth slot when the new 2011 Major League Baseball season kicks off in a few weeks.
The local news in San Francisco had reported that Barry’s position in the club wasn’t safe and there were rumours going around that the maestro would have his contract bought out by the Giants in the coming days.
Bruce wasted no time in conducting a meeting on the issue. He had a conversation with Zito and iterated his stance for the season.
"I told him he's going to be our fourth starter", Bochy said. "You do stay open-minded with the competition that's going on, whether it's in the outfield, infield or with the pitching staff, starting and bullpen. We came up with a game plan, and that's Barry
going the fourth game".
Though Zito’s contribution with the 2010 season depicted no real sympathy, the ball thrower is commended for his ability to deliver quality starts. The figure for last year goes up to 19 starts.
Bruce has faith in the maestro and he placed him in the start against the Milwaukee Brewers in the Spring Training game on Monday.
"We go back to when he wasn't on the postseason roster. You watch how hard he worked, throwing sides, throwing to hitters between the series. He wanted to stay ready. Barry gives you everything he's got.
Zito didn’t make the 2010 playoffs with the Giants as he was dropped because of his lacklustre season performance. He has problems with his command of the ball. That is something he is working to improve this season.
