Manager Buck Showalter, EVP Dan Duquette look for a strong future for Baltimore Orioles - MLB News
It seems that every one at the Baltimore Orioles are happy with the decision to give an extension to manager Buck Showalter and executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette. The team has found success with the duo at the helm of affairs and
that is how they want to keep it going until 2018.
The players have already expressed their pleasure on the retaining of the manager who has created an environment that is based on mutual respect amongst the members of the team.
Louis Angelos, the ownership representative, also had similar sentiments at the occasion. He said that at no point in time the two had shown any concerns about getting extensions. He believed that the two have earned their stripes and have what it takes
to make the team a consistent performer.
"You can start with a standard three-year deal, but then it becomes, 'Let's go further than that. Let's make this about building a sustained, winning, competitive team.' And we got two guys who are really, I think, an unmatched team," Angelos said.
Buck Showalter said that he and Dan had a lot of respect between the two. He said that the two know each other’s strengths and respect how they deal with those areas. Buck also said that he is aware of his own weaknesses though he has not found any in Duquette.
“I think we both have a real respect for what each other's good at and what the other may not be," Showalter said. “I haven't found any with Dan yet, but I know my strengths and weaknesses.”
Buck also said that the two understood each other’s method of operation as well. He also said that both of them have discussions on various matters.
Dan Duquette wasn’t any short of kind words for Buck either. He said that he is the most fun manager that he has been around. He said that he knew Showalter has the passion to win.
"I said, 'This is a man of my own heart," said Duquette."I knew that this was a passionate man who would do everything he could to win a game."
Buck joked on being called ‘a fun person’ saying that he was as shocked as anyone else. A similar tone was followed throughout the event.
It is great to see that the Baltimore Orioles’ management showing faith in two of the most important guys who play a crucial part both on and off the field. It is indeed a wise decision by the Baltimore ball club to give the two experienced campaigners a
long run with the club.
If 2012 showed signs of what’s to come next, the Orioles may soon be locking horns with the big guys with a lot of success.
