Manager Jim Leyland expecting his team to fight back – MLB Update
According to a leading sports website, Detroit Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland is expecting his team to bounce back strongly before the All Star Break. With 25 wins and 31 losses, the Tigers are having a poor season. The fans had high hopes from a team that
won the American League Central Division title last season.
Additionally, the Tigers acquired first baseman Prince Fielder for a record $214 million deal earlier this year to have more depth and variety in their offence. However, it seems things have not worked out for the left hander with his favourite club as his
batting average for this season is far less than his career average.
Right now, the Tigers are placed third on the American League Central Division table and credit must also go to Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians, who are at first and second place respectively.
Jim Leyland and company took their third straight loss on Wednesday when they went down like nine pins in second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball. The Tigers had great success against the Indians last year but the fact they
have lost five straight to the Indians this year will be extremely painful.
"The rah-rah stuff doesn't work in the majors," Leyland said after Tigers' 4-2 loss to Cleveland. "Common sense conversation works. It's the facts of life. That's basically what it is. And the facts of life for us right now are that we're a little wobbly,
our knees are a little wobbly. We're in a corner and we've got to figure out a way to get our feet underneath us, come out and punch back. And we'll find out if we do that."
"I'm going to stand by them," Leyland said. "That's just the way it is.”
However, nothing has been lost as yet. It is still early in the season and the Tigers will have plenty of opportunities to improve their record. However, it will be very important for them to get back their confidence before the All Star Break. Justin Verlander,
Alex Avila, Miguel Cabrera and Fielder will all have to play a key role to lead the Tigers to their second straight AL Central triumph.
