Manager Ron Washington comments after Texas Rangers lose encounter with Tampa Bay Rays 4-5
Ron Washington was available after the Texas Rangers lost a series deciding encounter against the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4 at Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg on Wednesday, September 7.
Texas’ manager, Washington complemented the Rays on their perseverance and determination that availed them the victory in the 10th inning of the game through a walk off homer from Desmond Jennings.
The skipper was full of praise for David Price, who managed to halt the Rangers to just two runs and eight hits in six innings of play. While the Rangers own, Derek Holland, compiled a similar performance, it was not as effective as Price’s.
"Not every night you can put runs on the board," Washington said. "I thought Price came out and battled. He did a good job. We worked him hard. We got him out of there after five innings, but he was out there competing, and that's what he does and you have
to give him credit."
The skipper went on to state that Price kept his team in the game, as well. The manager believes a swing was all it could take to make a difference in the game.
The Rangers are currently 2.5 wins ahead of the Los Angeles Angels in the American League West. Ron Washington will be hoping for a good stride in the remaining weeks of the season. With a strong offensive line up, there is optimism amongst the fans. Many
are hoping for a post season entry and with a good 2010 season under the buckle, it becomes an expectation from the Texas faithful.
"This is where we want to be," Washington said. "You want to try and win every series. We lost today, but we had a chance to win it, just like they did."
Washington’s only fear is that the squad starts to lose focus and determination. The Angels will be waiting at the end of the season with a three game series and the skipper will like to see his men clear from danger before that time.
