Manchester, UK.....which part to live in?

Question

Can someone who already lives there tell me which are the good parts and the bad parts to live?

I may be moving there and I have only ever visited for a short time, so I really don't know much about the place. Though, I do remember once an area where there are restaurants closed up at 6pm on a Saturday because the area got dangerous after dark. Or so I was told by the owner.

Cheadle, Wilmslow, Hale and Altrincham are all nice places to live.
