Manchester City Star Carlos Tevez works as a caddie
The British Championship Open 2012 finally comes to an end. The event which took place at the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Course started from the 19th of July and end on the 22nd of July. The best in the world gathered for this auspicious event to fight for the Claret Jug.
It was a nail biting tournament. Players were giving their best at this prestigious stage. Some of the players were successful in impressing the spectators while others failed. In the end, there could be only one winner and this year’s British Open Champion was Ernie Els.
There were many starts in the Championship. To everyone’s surprise there was a soccer star on the course as well.
The soccer player was not in the spectators, he was actually a part of the game. The soccer sensation of Argentina and the Manchester City was the caddie of his fellow countryman Andres Romero.
Tevez was Romero’s caddie just for the final round of the tournament. This was a great experience for Tevez to go in the course alongside the best in the world.
In an interview, he said that this was a great opportunity and all but he was not much help to Romero.
“The chance to walk along the course and be around these great players is a pleasure and something unforgettable. I couldn't give any advice about the slopes, but I just carried the bag and supported him each hole. Andres is a professional, and he knows everything already”.
Andres Romero had a bad last day. He entered the last day with six-under par. In the final round, he carded 5 bogeys and four double bogeys, although there was a birdie on the eleventh. His score for the day was twelve-over par and his total score climbed up to eighteen-over par.
“I played really badly today, but he was helping me with my confidence,” Romero said. “He did not complain at all when I asked him if he was in any pain”.
Tevez was even asked if he is going to join golf after retiring. His answer was, “No, I play just with my friends as an amateur. The golf bag hurts my shoulder too much, I prefer to play football. And my pants were very tight”.
