and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 for a place in the first team.
After a loan spell with Bolton Wanderers in the latter half of last season, Sturridge is a reformed striker. While he scored 8 goals in 12 matches for the Trotters, he has so far scored 8 in 17 for Chelsea this season and has even provided four crucial assists.
Mancini said while speaking to reporters:
“I know him very well. I have watched him many times. It's strange, he was brought up in Manchester and someone let him leave for virtually nothing.”
Mancini, who is apparently a big fan of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international, revealed he was saddened that he hadn’t been in charge of the Citizens when Sturridge had departed because then he could have prevented the youngsters move to Chelsea.
“Sturridge is a really good player. He is young. Now we can't do anything because he's playing for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, but I would have seen him as one of the best young players at Manchester City.”
Sturridge left in 2009 when his contract with Manchester City expired, having previously just made 21 appearances for them. He left for the promise of regular football, something he has earned at Stamford Bridge and now looks to play a key role in the Blues
2011-2012 season.
He revealed:
“If he was here now, yes, he would be in the first team, and I think he will also arrive regularly in the national team. He would have been a great player for the future with us.”
According to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323, Sturridge would be part of the first team now had he remained with the club instead of leaving for Chelsea. He was certain the youngster would go on to be a huge success for both club and country.
Mancini continued:
“I don't think it was difficult to see that he was a good player when he was young"
