Manchester City boss impressed by Jo and David Silva
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has declared himself satisfied with the form of Jo Alves de Assis Silva (‘Jo’) and wants the striker to keep up the good work.
He was also pleased that winger David Silva put in a strong performance in the 2-0 opening UEFA Europa League win against Red Bull Salzburg.
The Brazilian made his first competitive start for City since December 2008 when he played in last night’s match.
Jo — who joined City for a reported fee of 20 million euros from CSKA Moscow two years ago — managed to score the second goal, as well as set up the opener for Spain international Silva, and Mancini revealed that he wants the forward to build on the performance
and show that he can become an important player for the club.
The manager told reporters today that: “To me, my players are the best in the world. But I know for all strikers it is important to score goals. Jo has scored one important goal for us. Now I hope he continues to play in the same way."
Mancini added that he was pleased for Silva who had previously failed to impress since his high-profile switch from Valencia. Now, the World Cup winner appears to have settled in and has begun to show why City paid £26m for his services over the summer.
The Italian said that: “David is a fantastic player. But he is in a different situation now playing different football. After one month he is ready to go 100 per cent for the team. He will also be an important player for the future. He knows how to play
football. Arsenal have two or three players like David and they play very well.”
