Manchester City chasing the top spot in the league as they welcome Everton tonight at the Eastland’s
The past couple of weeks surrounding the City of Manchester Stadium have only been dominated by one man and one man only. The ‘will he or will he not’ drama continues as City head into perhaps one of the most important matches in their history.
Manchester City will be looking to break an 81 year old hoodoo as they could claim the top spot in the league going into Christmas with a win tonight at Everton; something that they haven’t been able to do in 8 decades. With the games at Stamford Bridge
and Emirates falling prey to the severe weather conditions in England, City have been gifted a chance to go top of the league if they can conjure a win tonight.
It will be nothing short of a milestone for City but sadly this fact has taken the backseat due to ongoing drama about Carlos Tevez. The Argentinean striker has been hogging all the headlines in recent weeks as it was claimed that the striker had ended in
a transfer request and only yesterday, some newspapers in the country claimed that Sir Alex Ferguson had been approached by Tevez’s representatives inquiring if the Scott would like to re-sign the striker for a fee of around 20 million pounds. City have time
and again denied the prospect of the Argentinean leaving the Eastlands in the January transfer window but so crazy is the world of football in England that nothing can be ruled out. It was also reported in the newspapers that Carlos Tevez would be stripped
off the club’s captaincy after the striker showed lack of respect and commitment to the club by handing in a transfer request. All this off field drama would take the backseat tonight as City will be chasing the top spot in the league.
Everton on the other hand are in desperate need of some Christmas cheer themselves as they are on a run of 7 games without a win and David Moyes will be hoping that his side can halt City’s impressive run of form and put a spanner in their works tonight
when they visit City at Manchester Stadium.
Everton will visit the Eastlands tonight with their fans hoping rather than expecting their sides to win but they can take some solace from the fact that their side has won 5 of the last 6 previous meetings between the two sides, and if Everton manage to
spoil City’s party tonight they will open a 5 point cushion between themselves and the relegation zone as they are currently only 2 points adrift of the drop zone. Roberto Mancini will bring wholesome changes to his side tonight from the one that visited the
Stadio Olympico in Turin in the Europa league drawing 1-1 with Juventus in the midweek. But it will be interesting to see if Roberto Mancini decides to play Carlos Tevez or not as the striker has been training with the squad for the past couple of days.
Everton on the other hand will be no pushovers tonight and in Tim Cahil they have a man who can win any match just based on his personal skill and talent. It will be an intriguing battle between two sides that are chasing two entirely different dreams, with
three points extremely vital for both managers. Mario Balotelli is set to lead the Manchester City attack while Everton’s misfiring striker will get another chance to get themselves among the goals as Jo, Beckford and Anichebe have only managed to score 5
goals so far this season and if the toffees are to win tonight their striker would have to find the back of the net.
