Manchester City continue to splash the Cash
The richest club in football Manchester City just refuses to stop splashing the cash. Manager Roberto Mancini has said that they are looking to sign at least 2 more players before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
City has two players on their radar; American captain Landon Donovan and Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli.
Mancini said that Donovan is a very skilled player and it may be possible for the club to lure him to Manchester. Mancini said that during the World Cup he observed Landon closely and is sure that the American posses the ability to mix it with the best in English football. Donovan is currently playing for Los Angeles Galaxy in Major League Soccer in the United States, during the off season in States he did have a little loan stint with English club Everton last season.
Meanwhile the President of Inter Milan Massimo Morratti has said that there are various clubs interested in their young striker Mario Balotelli. Morratti said that the club has not rejected any offer and will look into them and consider the best option if they actually decide to sell him. He said that there is no doubt that Balotelli is a capable young man but if a good enough offer comes the club may decide to sell him.
Inter Milan won a historic treble last season under the Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho. Inter retained the Serie A title, followed it up by winning the Italian Cup known as Copa Italia and later made history by winning the Champions League after 45 years. However, Balotelli was not an integral part of Mourinho’s plans and even in the final of the Champions’ League in Munich he was on the bench and did not get a chance to make an appearance on the historic day.
Balotelli is believed to be one of the most talented strikers in Italy, and after the national team’s dismal performance in the World Cup he is expected to get a call up in the new look Italian team. Balotelli did not have a great relationship with the former Inter manager Mourinho and that was pretty much the reason he was not given much time on the field.
The 19 year old also did not help his cause by openly admitting that he is an AC Milan fan. AC Milan and Inter Milan share an age old rivalry and the statement understandably did not make him that famous amongst the Inter fans.
English clubs Manchester United and Chelsea are also believed to be in the race to sign Balotelli, but nothing has been officially announced as yet.
Meanwhile talking about the other target of Manchester City Landon Donovan, Don Garber the commissioner of Major League Soccer has played down the rumours and said that LA Galaxy have no plans of parting ways with their captain who signed a 4 year contract extension with the club last year.
Mancini further revealed that Aston Villa’s James Milner is also on the list of probable’s at City. Mancini said Milner has long been a player with immense potential but in recent times he has finally started to live up to his promise. The Italian manager said Aston Villa have already rejected one offer for the midfielder but Manchester City will continue to peruse him.
Earlier it was believed that Manchester City had all but assured the services of Alexandar Kolarov for 16 million pounds. The Serbian defender was one of the players in the World Cup that caught the eyes of millions, Mancini said.
If that deal is actually finalized then it will take the total spending by Manchester City to 75 million pounds so far in this transfer window.
